Taste of Neodesha is coming soon!

The event many say is the tastiest fundraiser in Neodesha is happening on Monday, October 4A Taste of Neodesha. The first event was held in 2002 and its success promoted the Wilson County Hospital Foundation to make it a yearly fall event. This year the event will be held from 11 am to 1:30 pm at the United Methodist Church, 8th and Indiana.
How does it work? You can select three different soups, dessert and drinksand all proceeds help the WCH Foundation buy equipment. Tickets are $6 and available at Get Fit! Wellness Center, Wilson County Hospital and Porter Drug Store. Advance ticket sales are encouragedfor obvious reasons!
Twenty-five different soups will be available--all prepared by some of the areas finest cooks. Billie Porter, Foundation Director, says each year one or two soups are extremely popular and attendees buy the two dollar cookbook to get that recipe. There is no way to predict which soup that will be. She notes, I have received several calls from people who have misplaced the recipe for Barbara Williss Sausage Soup from the first year. I actually mentioned to Pat that I hoped a Smoked Sausage Soup I was trying would be as good as Barbaras soup. When I realized what I said, I decided to ask Barbara is she cared if I made her recipe for the event this year.and she laughed, but readily agreed.
Barbara Waggoner, Foundation Secretary, types and assembles the cookbooks each year. People often buy multiples to use as stocking stuffers or for friends who no longer live here but know the cooks.
Some attendees seem to look for down-home soups like Chicken and Noodle while others seek out spicy soups like Taco or Tortilla Soups. Men frequently head for the really hardy soups like Chili, Hamburger and Cheese or a Bean and Bacon. Last year, some attendees were surprised to find the rich broth of Rochelle Chronisters Bavarian Vegetable soup was from oxtails and that oxtails need to cook for at least ten hours. This year Rochelle plans on making a recipe for White Chili she got from one of Wilson Countys great cooks, Gertrude McGinnis Kee.
The first year the event helped purchase a machine that is used to measure and print the results of a patients vital signs, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature and heart rate. Last year the project was for new television sets for patients rooms. The 2004 project is a portable medicine cart.
