1. Examine your motivation for change.
2. Set realistic goals.
3. Focus on the behavioral change more than the goal.
4. Learn to redefine physical sensations of discomfort.
5. Make tasks non-negotiable.
6. Allow for imperfection.
7. Do it now!
To help members meet their exercise and weight loss goals, the staff is starting two new programs that each member will have the opportunity to participate in--Body-4-Life and/or Weight Loss Clubs and continuing with 10K a day.
The Body-4-Life is a twelve week plan with two components--diet and exercise. The diet requires 6 small meals each day that consists of a carbohydrate and a protein with one free day a week. The exercise program is three days of hard weight training and three days of cardiovascular training each week. There is no additional charge to members for instruction in either phase of the program and members can sign up for only the exercise component. The Body for LIFE Book by Bill Phillips appeared for many weeks on National Best Seller Lists and is a widely accepted program for changing participants lives. The book is also available at Rankin Memorial Library.
The Weight Loss Clubs will have four different categories. You may sign up for one of the following clubs: 3, 5, 7, or 10 pounds. Each member who participates will try to lose that amount in an 8-12 week time frame. It is a well established fact; people enrolled in a weight loss group are more motivated to stay on track.
10K a Day-- Pedometers are available to check out on a weekly basis for members wanting to check their number of steps a day. 10,000 Steps a Day is a program that started in Japan and has spread rapidly worldwide. The proponents believe 10,000 steps a day is necessary for basic fitnessand one starts by measuring your steps and gradually increasing until you reach the desirable 10K a Day.
Brandy invites area residents to tour the Wellness Center at 6th and Main anytime between 5:30am and 7:30pm, Monday-Friday.
