As WCH Approaches its 90th ..
Each year when alumni return to Neodesha,
those of us who have been able to remain or return and live in our home town
are grateful for your continual interest and support. We live in a very
different world than the one found with the birth of Wilson County Hospital
on March 17, 1913--nearly 90 years ago. During that time, we have seen
immeasurable changeschanges in technology, changes in treatments, changes
in the political scene, and changes in society.
Some changes in the past year have been
very positive, made our future brighter and able to better meet the needs of
our community. These include:
- Critical Access StatusReceiving Critical
Access Status simply will help us survive in these tough times, said
Deanna Pittman, Administrator of Wilson County Hospital. Its such a
positive move for our facility. She notes Our patients will see no
change in our facility or their care. It simply allows us to receive
higher Medicare paymentsand approximately 60% of patients rely on
Medicare to pay their bills. In addition, we receive some flexibility in
government rules and regulations.
- Wound Care CenterThe need for a second
Hyperbaric Chamber has been established and there are plans to add an
additional chamber in the near future. Our three Family Practice
physicians and a local podiatrist are all actively involved in this highly
successful venture. The Center employees three full-time registered
nurses, three part-time nurses, office manager, and a van driver. Our
hospitals other services (laboratory, radiology, surgery) have been
favorably impacted as a result of the Wound Care Center. Customer Service
Satisfaction Surveys through a national survey show over 97% of patients
would recommend our service to their friends.
-
www.wilsoncountyhospital.org-- WCH finally has a web site. It
was constructed in-house by Julie Quanstrom and Billie Porter.
- Medical Office BuildingMedical Office
Building project will include physician offices and the expansion of the
hospitals Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine. The new
facility will be located adjacent to the hospital. The Tax Credits will
help fund this project. Our three dedicated physicians are committed to
planning for the future needs of our community. Dr. Barrett
intends to lease one of these new offices in order to accommodate his
growing practice and to add a Nurse Practioner to his practice. Physician
recruitment is also a very important part of this planning process. Both
Dr. Moorhead and Dr. Chronister are very supportive of the plans.
- Tax CreditsWere grateful for the support of
local businesses and industries who have agreed to purchase tax credits
that will benefit construction of the new Medical Office Building. The
application process was very competitive with the State awarding 28 grants
out of 90 applications. The State approve a total of $250,000 in
contributions towards out project of which 70% of the contribution will
be allowed as Kansas Tax Credits.
- Community Development Block GrantWe, along
with several other local entities, are hard at work on a grant to help
provide additional funding for our Medical Office Building. The last CDBG
allowed us to build our Wellness Center and Outpatient Physical Therapy
Department at 6th and Main. It also allowed us to renovate our
Outpatient Area and Emergency Room Entrance.
- WCH FoundationOur Foundation continues to
provide support for our hospital. During the last year the following
equipment was donated through memorials and through our Foundation: Air
handling units, Air Pal Transfer System, Pneumatic Tourniquet, Padgett
electro-dermatone, Blood pressure cuff, Oximeter, Patients Teaching
Guide, Model 678 SureTemp & Probe, Client Teaching Guide, HD 500 Power
Chair (Gift from Harmony Lodge #94, Pillar Technology and their suppliers)
and dietary equipment. A fundraiser A Taste of Neodesha is planned on
October 21, 2002. The Monday luncheon will allow diners to sample soups
from Neodeshas best cooks. If you would like to receive our Foundation
Newsletter, our address is WCH Foundation, PO Box 360, Neodesha, KS 66757
